On August 10th, Milwaukee County, WI suffered a treacherous storm that damaged many of our homes and cars.

I own my home and after my basement filled with more than 8 feet of water due to the backup of water coming from the drain in the floor, my sump pump failed, then my basement wall collapsed. My family lost everything that was in my basement. One of my son's rooms was in the basement; he lost everything. My other son, who was in a fire a few months earlier, came to stay with me and put his and my granddaughter's belongings in my basement; they lost everything.

My basement is currently filled with cinder blocks from my collapsed basement wall, mud, debris, rocks, shrubs, and destroyed belongings. To add insult to injury, the insurance company has partially denied my claim. They are only paying $5,000 for backup/sump pump failure. They are denying many of Milwaukee County residents' claims due to this storm, who have suffered similar destruction to their homes.

I am very prideful and also a believer that the storm shall pass and things will be better. I've always just pushed and prayed through unfortunate circumstances. For the first time, I feel completely at a loss and need help.

Funds will be used to rebuild my home's foundation as well as any other necessary repairs such as plumbing in my basement. The cost to clean out the basement was $9,400. To replace the basement wall, along with associated repairs is costing more than $38,000. Electrician $7,000. I have yet to receive a quote from a plumber.
