My name is David Kahmann.
I have been going through overwhelming circumstances since September of last year, 2024. It started with Jeremiah eating a potty pad from a paralyzed cat that I had rescued. This put me out of work for 3 weeks and cost me over $1,000. The very next month, in October, my van broke down three different times in 3 weeks. Then we were hit by Hurricane Milton and the tornadoes, which destroyed my travel trailer and my van, blowing out the windows of both vehicles, a branch through the roof of my trailer, and a lightning strike that destroyed the entire electrical system.
I then moved into MainStay Suites hotel on the FEMA program. My van broke down two more times. I finally got everything fixed. Then, the very next day, I was involved in a small car accident, enough to drain the water from my radiator. While exchanging information with police and the other person involved, my engine overheated and the head cracked. I was able to borrow some money and buy a new van. Three weeks later, the van threw a rod and the engine was destroyed. A few days after that, I was involved in a car accident on New Year's Eve where we were hit by a drunk driver. I sustained 9 herniated discs and a fracture in my hip, where the doctor says I need a full and complete hip replacement. I then spent over 2 months recovering from the car accident in my hotel room with absolutely no transportation. At this point, I was beyond broke. My FEMA ran out, and they put me out of the hotel even though my case is still open on the travel trailer. That's right, it's been since October and they still haven't finished the case. I had to find somewhere to store my box trailer and van. I am currently staying underneath a bridge in Fort Pierce in my travel trailer that has no electric, water, heat, or air conditioning, and nothing works in the kitchen. I'm doing my best to get to work every day selling my art, but I have missed the entire season this year. The majority of my money is made from October through spring break.
At any point, the police can come and tow my travel trailer and impound it. I would not be able to get it out because I don't have the money.
I am absolutely desperate to come up with $2,500 to $3,000 to have the engine replaced in my van so that I am able to move my travel trailer if necessary and be able to get to my normal art shows where I make the most money. Without a vehicle, it is pretty much impossible to do anything considering I have two dogs and a bird. If we lose the travel trailer, we are all on the street. It may be up to a year or two before I see any settlement from the car accident, and I have no idea when FEMA is going to close my case on the trailer.
Please help me replace the engine in my van so that my life can once again be normal without the worry of losing all that I have. I have no choice but to trust the Lord for my day-to-day needs and for Him to keep me safe. And I am also reaching out to friends and family for help. I have no other choice. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
