Hello everyone

On November 23rd 2025 my best friend Chris and I were carjacked at gunpoint while transiting Sinaloa, Mexico on our way South to our rental home in Sayulita for the winter.

I (Shayne) have lived down here for many years without issue, so Chris and his family decided to try out a winter in Mexico with me finally.

At 2pm in the afternoon while following the Google Maps route going South through Northwest Mexico we were stopped by a vehicle full of men armed with machine guns.

Within a few seconds the men had fired some warning shots at my feet, removed us from

the vehicle, and drove off into the distance while leaving us stranded on an empty highway in shock from our experience.

The robbers made off with Chris’s pick-up truck, along with his motorcycle, most of our personal belongings, and many tens of thousands of dollars in our photography and videography equipment.

Worst of all, they drove off with Chris’s dog Shiloh still inside the truck, despite Chris’s frantic efforts to remove the dog from the vehicle.

We spent the next several days seeking safety, and working with the authorities to try and resolve the situation, ending in filing a police report, and insurance claim on the truck.

Chris and I met in Navy bootcamp in 2007 and have been brothers and battle buddies ever since.

We are both military service connected disabled veterans trying to manage our lives with PTSD and chronic illnesses that heavily affect our days.

In recent years Chris and I have found purpose through our shared passion with photography and videography, where we are able to connect with our communities and our environments in meaningful and fulfilling ways.

We both lost all of our digital imaging equipment and most of our significant personal items during this attack, and we’re seeking assistance from our communities to help rebuild and get back on our feet.

Both of us are enrolled in a photography degree program starting this winter and are planning to develop various community and conservation focused photo/videography projects.

The gifts received in this Gofundme will aid us in funding search efforts and reward for our dog Shiloh, regaining clothes, working vehicles, photography equipment, etc.. that we lost in the robbery, as well as support in telling the story.

The outpouring of support we’ve received through our communities so far has been heartwarming and inspirational to say the least. Many of you, between our closest friends and most casual acquaintances and social media followers have reached out to offer their support in various ways that have been invaluable to us in the recent days.

Neither Chris nor I are very excited to be creating a Gofundme, but at the recommendation of many of our peers seeking to donate to our recovery I would like to share this ask.

We thank you whole-heartedly for all of your kind words and gestures of love and friendship. We are deeply touched and grateful to still be here with you all to this day.
