Since the onset of the war, we, like many others, have endured repeated displacement. We fled our home in Gaza to seek refuge in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central region. However, the relentless bombings escalated each passing day, depriving us of peaceful rest amidst the harrowing sounds of destruction.
The bombings were relentless, and each day we mourned the loss of acquaintances and loved ones. We grappled with overwhelming emotions of sadness, fear, and despair as death loomed omnipresent.
Forced to seek shelter in one of the UNRWA shelters in Khan Yunis, we found a semblance of safety amid the harsh conditions of tent living. Despite the challenges, my children could finally sleep without the incessant sounds of war. We yearned for this fleeting sense of security to endure.
Yet, the tide of aggression reached Khan Yunis, plunging us back into the nightmare we thought we had escaped. With UNRWA's withdrawal from aiding and protecting us, our desperation mounted.
Miraculously, we managed to flee to Rafah, where we now reside. However, our circumstances deteriorate with each passing day, and I am overwhelmed by the burden of safeguarding my children alone.
My youngest daughter, Kinzy, seeks solace in sleep, but her innocent inquiries about the war's end and reuniting with her father haunt me. She wakes up trembling with fear, dreading the specter of death and bombings.
Just two days ago, Karim and Mira learned of the tragic loss of friends and family in Gaza City, leaving them reeling from profound sorrow, anger, and fear.
I cannot endure this nightmare any longer; I must shield my children from further harm and despair. Your donation offers us the only glimmer of hope to escape Gaza and embark on a new life in Egypt. The funds will cover all expenses required for our journey, including application fees and travel costs for four individuals.
To facilitate my family's evacuation from Gaza to Egypt, I have initiated a GoFundMe campaign with a target of raising CAD 57,800. Here is the breakdown of the funds:
- CAD$ 57,800 is equivalent to approximately US $42,700.
- A total of US $1,238 will be allocated to cover GoFundMe's transaction fees (2.9% plus $0.30 per donation).
- It is estimated that US $2,200 per month will suffice to cover my family's basic needs in Egypt, including accommodation, medical expenses, food, and other essentials (approximately US $26,400 per year).
- A sum of US $15,000 has been earmarked to cover expenses associated with securing permits to leave Gaza and crossing fees at Rafah, the Egypt-Gaza border, with following details: Rania: US $5000, Karim: US $5000, Mira: US $2500, Kinzy: US $2500
