Restore Middle Street Synagogue
Described as "one of Europe's greatest cathedral synagogues", Brighton’s exquisitely beautiful and uplifting Grade II* listed Middle Street Synagogue is in urgent need of financial help. We are all volunteers and already run an exciting programme of open days, tours and events to raise funds to cover the running costs, but now urgently need extra help.
We created this initial fundraising page, to raise funds to address urgent remedial care to the building to make it safe for the winter, to obtain professional advice to develop the wider strategy for restoring the building, to upgrade the electrics and to make the building accessible to all and fully compliant with DDA and Health and Safety requirements.

Our eventual vision is to evolve it into an occasional use synagogue with a fully inclusive Jewish Heritage Centre for Brighton - an inspiring, educational visitor centre and meeting place for the celebration of the whole of Jewish life and rich heritage. With the current growth of antisemitism, the need for a centre to educate the wider community about the Jewish story is becoming increasingly necessary.

We are also seeking volunteer help from anyone who has specialist skills.
And we warmly welcome volunteers from the Jewish and wider community to help with events organisation, admin, marketing and guiding.

Walking in through the doors of the synagogue, you are transported back in time to a bygone age of elegance and gently uplifted by the inherent sacredness of the building. Suffused by golden light from the stained-glass windows, it is an oasis of calm and tranquility in the centre of the busy city.
A unique place which is such an important part of global Jewish heritage, standing testament to the story and achievements of the first Jewish residents of Brighton, who rose to prominence in all areas of British life and to the Jewish talent for arriving destitute in a new land and working against all odds to survive, thrive, endure and create something exceptional.
We wish to thank everyone for their support. It means a lot to us and to the whole Jewish community.
