Restore Deb Lukens' Eyesight
Deb is quickly losing her vision due to glaucoma. She is nearly legally blind in her left eye and eyesight in her right eye is deteriorating. The treatment to restore and save Deb's vision is not available in the U.S.
The Savir Center in Germany specializes in treatment for patients like Deb with low vision and partial blindness due to diseases of the retina, optic nerve or brain.
Deb recently lost her job as a college professor. She is actively looking for new opportunities and, ideally, would like to have a friend accompany her to Germany to help guide her and support outpatient care.
The GoFundMe goal of $8,250 is an estimate to cover the following costs for Deb:
Roundtrip flight from Boston to Germany: ~$1000.
One time treatment at Savir Center: $5500.
Two week hotel/AirBNB stay required for outpatient recovery: ~$1400
GoFundMe service charge: 2.9% plus $.30 per donation
Deb is looking to travel to Germany in late September. If you can help in any way -- by donating frequent flyer miles, hotel points, lodging in or near Magdeburg, or providing a small cash donation (as little as $5), it will go far.
