Help Buddy Get a New Motorized Wheelchair!

Buddy, a beloved member of our downtown Plymouth community, has been a familiar face cruising around in his wheelchair. He has had this wheelchair for at least the 7 years that I have known him. He has been trying for many months to get Medicaid to replace it without much luck. With budget cuts that seems less and less likely. Now his wheelchair, due to age and a recent accident, is not operational at all. We are reaching out to raise funds to help Buddy get a new motorized wheelchair.

Buddy, whose real name is Darrie Barrow, has faced numerous, significant challenges throughout his life. He developed polio at the age of 7 and spent 12 years in the Charlotte area receiving treatment, separated from his family. Later, he developed scoliosis, which required additional treatment and time away from his loved ones. Buddy has been confined to a wheelchair for most of his life and relies on Social Security Disability and donations from friends to get by.

Despite these challenges, Buddy remains positive and friendly. He loves to sing and creates original songs about his mother, who recently passed away. Buddy is always looking out for others downtown and helps out whenever he can.
