For 17 years, Frisco Texas was home to an award winning barbershop named Brooklyn’s Cuts & Designs. It has been more than a barbershop — it has been a safe space, a community hub, and a lifeline for families across Frisco TX and surrounding areas. Led by Rodregius Smith aka Brooklyn, a man whose generosity and leadership has lifted countless people, this shop has shaped young men, supported parents, and strengthened the community year after year.
From hosting Back-to-School events for nearly two decades, to coaching local youth, mentoring young men, and supporting families in crisis, Brooklyn has always been one of Frisco’s biggest givers. When people needed help, he showed up. Every year. Without fail.
A Rare Milestone for a Black-Owned Business in Frisco Texas
Brooklyn’s success and reputation eventually earned him a rare opportunity — a location right on Main Street in Frisco Texas, one of the most visible and sought-after areas in the city. This was not just a win for him; it was a milestone for representation and recognition. Seeing a Black-owned business thriving on Main Street meant something powerful for the community.
But that hard-earned milestone was short-lived.
Construction Devastated His Business
The rapid construction and city development surrounding his shop caused devastation that no small business owner could survive alone:
- Customers couldn’t reach the shop due to blocked parking, torn-up roads, and constant construction hazards.
- Clients — including those from the NBA and NFL — had to cancel appointments because simply accessing the shop became impossible or unsafe.
- Many loyal clients grew tired of flat tires, long walks through mud and rain, and confusing detours, eventually forcing them to look elsewhere.
- His visibility was swallowed up by fences, machinery, and barriers that hid his shop from the public.
- Despite major financial losses, Brooklyn was required to continue paying full rent and expenses, with zero concessions, discounts, or support from the city.
- His insurance could not help due to the issue being classified as a city construction project.
- He ultimately lost his entire team because the shop could no longer sustain their employment.
When businesses asked the city for relief, they were told to “be patient.”
But the bills didn’t stop. The losses didn’t stop. And patience doesn’t pay rent.
For the first time in over 13 years, Brooklyn couldn’t host his annual Back-to-School event — something that has become a cornerstone of joy and support for hundreds of kids every year.
Forced to Relocate Just to Survive
The ongoing disruption forced him to move locations entirely — not because he wanted to, but because he had no other choice. The dream of thriving on Main Street, a dream he worked incredibly hard to achieve, was taken from him not by bad business decisions, but by circumstances completely outside his control.
Now, the goal is simple: help rebuild and RE-OPEN what was unfairly taken from him and continue serving the community he has always uplifted.
Why We’re Raising Funds
Your support will help the owner:
- Recover from months of construction-related financial losses
- Reopen: Rebuild and stabilize his new location
- Restore staffing and operations
- Replace the income lost from high-profile clients who could no longer reach the shop
- Reestablish programs and youth events that the community has depended on for years
Rodregius has never asked for anything. He has spent his entire career giving, supporting, and believing in Frisco’s families. Now, he needs the community to believe in him.
A Message From Rodregius
“Anything I receive is strictly what the Man upstairs has for me. He knows my heart and my character. I’ve spent years giving everything I had to this community. Now I’m asking for support so I can keep doing the work I love and continue serving the people who have always believed in me.”
