Imagine waking up in the night to the sound of neighbors alerting you that your home is on fire. That’s what happened to one of my dearest friends, Gina, on a Friday night in March, and her life will be forever changed as a result.

Gina is a school teacher in the Tampa Bay Area. Her husband is also an educator. They fell asleep early and awoke to one of the most frightening experiences of their lives. Their 2-year-old daughter, thankfully, had fallen asleep in their room that night. I say thankfully because her bedroom did catch on fire.

They raced out of their home and watched outside as it burned down along with most of their belongings and memories. Of course they are grateful to be alive, but now they have to rebuild, and it will be a tall task.
