A sacred space on the Big Island of Hawai‘i has been violated—and we are coming together to restore it.
The home and training space of a revered Kumu Hula in Ola‘a was recently broken into. Doors were violently kicked in, and essential items were stolen, including speakers, a generator, lawn equipment, and deeply personal belongings. Beyond the physical damage, this act disrupted a place that holds immense cultural, educational, and spiritual significance.
This is not just a home—it is a hālau, a place where Kumu Hula are trained and where ʻike (knowledge), ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i (Hawaiian language), hula, and the history and traditions of our islands are passed down with intention and care. Under the guidance of Kumu Hula Lehua Kawaikapuokalani Hewett, this space has nurtured generations committed to perpetuating Hawaiian culture.
We are asking for your support to help restore and protect this sacred place. Funds raised will go toward:
- Repairing the damaged doors and structure
- Replacing stolen items such as speakers, generator, and equipment
- Installing a security camera system
- Adding an alarm system for safety and protection
