I'm reaching out for help after an insane and traumatic event that has left me feeling unsafe and financially strained. About 2 months ago, my apartment was burglarized by my neighbors across the hall from me. You heard that right, I'm in apartment 208 at the Castleton Building off of 3rd and 19th in Minneapolis, MN, and they're in apartment 207. Let me try to summarize a complicated event that had a lot of things that happened. Forgive me if there are details I forget right away.

So, I left my apartment, locked up the door behind me, and ran a quick errand. When I came back into the building and reached my 2nd-floor hallway, I gazed upon my neighbor and her boyfriend smack dab in the middle of burglarizing my home. I saw with my own eyes her standing there as the lookout in the hallway. He came dashing out of my apartment suddenly when she yelled for him (actually, she yelled, "Hey Mitch, someone broke in your apartment." Haha, that part is actually funny, c'mon). I knew right away what was happening, of course, so without thinking, I exclaimed, "You're breaking into my f***n apartment."

Already shook, I proceeded and continued to walk down the hall towards my apartment. At this point, the girl, her name is Kayla, started screaming incoherently at me. I got to my door and saw it was completely broken down. They decided the best way to get in was to simply throw themselves against a locked door until it broke down, completely breaking free from the wood frame. The scene I saw when I got in there was kind of traumatic. People experience worse things, but gazing upon my door broken down and all my musical instruments and recording equipment gone almost made me break down crying. But there was no time for that; I was worried about my kitty and knew that I needed to call the police, so I immediately dialed 911. This whole time, Kayla is screaming gibberish at me, saying, "We didn't do shit." The only thing I could say back was, "Are you kidding me? I caught you in the act, you're stupid."

As I'm calling 911, her boyfriend, whose name I still don't know, approaches me while the phone is up against my ear. He cocks back and punches me in the face. I was pretty shocked by this, but I told the dispatcher, and they said they would send somebody. It took Minneapolis P.D. over 1 hour to arrive, which is just so f'n stupid. That's the only thing that left a bad taste in my mouth. It was 3 pm in the afternoon; it took them an hour to get a squad car there. By then, the boyfriend was long gone. He did do one last act to spite me, I guess, and it's specifically why I'm writing here today. While on the phone, I heard a loud crack. The sound was jarring, and I thought for sure it was a gunshot. But as it turns out, it was the sound of my $1400 Yamaha keyboard, my baby, being tossed out a 2nd-story window. It hit the pavement outside in the hallway and cracked in half. Take a look at this picture, the saddest keyboard you'll ever see most likely.

Folks, there are a lot more details to share, and I wondered if I should even do this. I don't want to ask friends and family for money, but I think the situation might be worth it because not only is my keyboard broken in half, I'm obviously in the process of moving out of this shithole apartment building. The time in between has been incredibly stressful as building management has done nothing to help me. I have consulted with friends who are lawyers, and they gave me a couple of people to call, but the case is a weird one. I don't know exactly how to pursue it. All I'm trying to do with this GoFundMe is replace my keyboard. I've had it over 2 years, and the pro coverage I bought from Guitar Center has expired. I'm trying to gather $1400 to purchase a new keyboard. Would you please consider donating? I am currently in nursing school, so I'm working considerably less, but I still want to go out and play gigs and especially write music when I can, and without a keyboard, I simply cannot do this. $1400 is my goal. If the choice is between donating to someone who has a terminal illness or a family member with one, give to them, not me. But if you don't and feel like you could swing it, I sure could use your help replacing this keyboard. I'll attach a few photos and a copy of the police report. Message me if you want any juicy details.
