Phase 1: Emergency Repair Work To The Medieval Hall Range
Those of you who are familiar with our story at Gwydir will know of our efforts to restore and maintain this extraordinary ancient building over the last 32 years, transforming it from near-derelict ruin to a much-loved historic house and garden open to the public.
Gwydir has no estate to support it, neither does it receive any public funding or subsidy. It relies on what we (Peter & Judy) can raise to support its restoration and repair.
But these costs are growing, year on year. Whilst we are in the final stages of setting up a charity to support the house and gardens, we find ourselves facing a backlog of restoration work which needs tackling now. This winter has been particularly hard, with water ingress in many areas relating to eroded pointing and storm damage.
We are about to start a major phase of repair work to the chimneys, pointing and stonework of the medieval hall range. If you felt able to contribute, in whichever way you can, we/Gwydir would be so grateful. This remarkable and atmospheric house gives many people around the world much pleasure and inspiration. With your help, we hope to continue our work here to safeguard Gwydir’s future and ensure public access for generations to come.
