National Coal Board East Fife Area (NBL 27591) "No.10"
The restoration of No.10 has begun! After sitting rather forlornly in our yard at Kirkland in Leven for some years we are now in a position to undertake the long-awaited restoration. A start has already been made with rust removal, preparation and painting. Both buffer beams have been painted and work has started on the cab. We need to fundraise to purchase materials and paint.
No.10 is a class 0-6-0 diesel hydraulic loco with a 440hp MAN engine and was built by the North British Locomotive Company, Glasgow, in 1957. She served at several local collieries (Michael, Wellesley and Bowhill) before being taken out of service in 1974. She was moved to the Lochty Private Railway where she once again was put to good use. No.10 was relocated to our Kirkland Yard site in Leven along with the other locos and wagons in 2001.
The first stage cosmetic restoration is well underway and if fundraising goes well, and we can get some more volunteers to come and work on her, there is no reason why No.10 is not fully restored and returned to operational service.
A Facebook page has been set up where you can follow regular updates on the progress. https://www.facebook.com/share/19Ch9fDgmF/?mibextid=wwXIfr
