Col Zachary “Thrill” Laird was a distinguished A-10 pilot, a graduate of the USAF Weapons School, commanded the 6th Combat Training Squadron at Nellis AFB, and was the JSOC Director of Fires at Fort Bragg.

Col Laird served his country in combat, saving the lives of countless American soldiers, and was repeatedly decorated throughout his career for his exceptional service. Notable honors include the Aerial Achievement Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and Bronze Star Medal.

More importantly, Thrill was an American, brother, son, uncle, friend, patriot. He was approachable, kind, and embodied servant leadership. He built a culture of excellence wherever he went and taught generations of pilots the meaning of selfless service because, "The mission is an 18 year old with a rifle on his worst day." He passed away too soon in the line of duty on May 2nd, 2023 after a battle with cancer. The impact Thrill had on our country and the people he served with deserves to be honored and remembered.

His sister Katherine said it best: "Zach dedicated his military career to being the best of the best in order to save the lives of those he was tasked to protect. He dedicated his last days praying that his dying would give him a chance to tell more people about his faith in Christ and save lives for eternity."
