Restarting after the Nambucca Close explosion

Dear friends and compassionate supporters,

I am reaching out to you today to share the heartbreaking story of my dear friend Rae, her daughter Poppy (19), and son Max (23), who have recently experienced a life-altering event.

On Wednesday, July 12, they became innocent victims of a devastating home explosion in Murrumba Downs, Nambucca Close. The explosion occurred in the neighbouring two-story townhouse, directly next door (they were situated on the righthand side of the property), resulting in the townhouse they resided in being significantly damaged from the explosion and fire. During this terrifying incident, Poppy was home and found herself trapped as the roof collapsed upon her in the lounge room. Thankfully, Poppy was able to escape and survived the ordeal physically unharmed. However, the traumatic experience has understandably left her deeply affected. Their beloved dog, Honey, and the guinea pigs were fortunately rescued by a kind-hearted neighbour. Regrettably, their cherished cats are still missing, likely having fled during the chaos.

Rae, Poppy, and Max are now faced with the overwhelming task of rebuilding their lives from scratch, having lost a good proportion of their belongings they held dear. The damage sustained by the townhouse is irreparable, rendering it uninhabitable, and will be demolished.

In this time of adversity, I turn to each of you, kind-hearted individuals, for your support in helping Rae and her family rebuild their lives once again. The financial burden they now face is immense, encompassing not only the need for a new place to call home but also the necessities that come with starting afresh. Rae does not have contents insurance, and no support is available to her given the nature of the event.
