In Haiti, no one wants the New Year to catch them without a clean, well maintained and updated home. It's a sign of letting go of the old, sweeping out any negativity, and making space for the energy of the new. So at the Fondasyon Dauphin, now is the perfect time to put things right in our space! We have not been able to provide hot meals since COVID19 for various reasons, and now we have *almost* all the pieces in place to return to a daily community meal for the kids!
All we need is two doors, a stairway up to our new space (~$1,800) and a propane stove (~$700) to start cooking again! Can you help us? As they say in Haiti, Men anpil, chaj pa lou or Many hands make light work, so even small amounts are helpful!
The Fondasyon Dauphin is supported in the US by the non-profit Friends of Borgne, based in Honeoye Falls, NY. It is a children's foundation in northern Haiti that supports education by subsidizing teachers, providing struggling families with tuition, books, uniforms, shoes, and backpacks, supporting a mobile donkey-based library for rural schools, hosting a marching band, and providing additional afterschool and vocational opportunities. See our website at friendsofborgnehaiti.org for more details.
The Foundation Dauphin served hot meals daily to the children from 2008-2020, but stopped meeting in person during COVID. Then the landlord decided to tear down our facility so we had to find new space - which took a lot of time and fundraising. All this time, we have been sending care packages to the families to cook for the kids. Still, the community aspect of the program has suffered some, without those informal daily meetings that foster friendships, provide peer support and allow more mentorship from caring adults.
Please give a little if you are able to help build up some of these good things that are still happening in Haiti. Johnny, the founder/director and the Foundation staff sometimes risk their lives to make all these programs happen for the kids, so that they might have some semblance of normal life in the midst of the violence and chaos. Borgne is a special place that is a bit off the beaten path and these children must prepare for an uncertain future...perhaps even one where they can lead with the skills and heart they've learned from the Fondasyion Dauphin community. Thanks for your support!
