This was written on behalf of Ruy’s family:

On July 17th we lost a son, a brother, and a nephew. Ruy was only 22 Years old. He leaves behind a loyal family that loved him deepy. During the last weeks of his life his family took turns caring for him.

Ruy was generous and ambitious and was robbed of a whole life ahead of him.

During police custody, Ruy suffered a medical emergency. Excessive force caused his bladder to rupture and blood to fill his lungs. He had multiple corrective surgeries to help sustain his life. Before this tragic incident Ruy was healthy and suffered no medical conditions.
