Rest and recovery bed for Suz
As many of you will know, but some of you may not, my big sister Suzy was taken seriously ill at the start of this year and was rushed to Eastbourne District General Hospital. She spent nine weeks in Intensive Care on a life support machine - three weeks of that in a coma - fighting for her life.
Thankfully she got much better but the road to get to this point has been far from easy. With the threat of Covid she was discharged early and rushed home on the night of lockdown but since then her world has been turned upside down and her recovery has been a struggle.
She has had no support from physios and has had to relearn how to move and walk. She still struggles to move her left hand side. Because of her restricted movement just getting in and out of bed is too difficult and she has to be lifted in and out every night and morning. In order for this to happen her bed is now in the lounge and she has still not been able to go back to her own bedroom - her sanctuary she was dreaming of all the time she was in ICU.
It has been suggested that Suz rents a hospital bed to sleep in for the rest of her life. I hope you have never had to sleep in one of these but they’re not the most comfortable places to be. She has fought so hard to get to where she is it just seems cruel to give her that daily constant reminder of what happened and being in hospital.
Since January she has been dreaming of life going back to normal and being back in her own bed and bedroom. She has come out to a world that is entirely different. Covid has taken hold; lockdown and shielding meant that she was unable to see any of her friends or take part in many of the things that had been keeping her going while she was in hospital.
There are beds which move that Suz would be able to get in and out of that are like normal beds and comfortable to sleep in but they are not funded on the NHS. Which is why I need your help please!
We would love to buy Suz a bed that fits her needs and that she can relax and recuperate in every night. A bed that is her own.
She has fought so hard to get better and get to this point. She has come so far and even the brain injury she has been living with since she was a baby has not held her back. She is incredible and we’d be so grateful if you could help to raise the £3,000 we need to get this for her. It really will make all the difference and give her not just her confidence but also some independence and sense of normality back.
Thank you. xx
