I created this GoFundMe without Dad's knowledge (and will take whatever consequences come with it!) because if Dad and I have learned anything in the last several weeks, it is that we cannot be afraid to ask for help when it's needed.
Less than six months ago, Dad (Larry Lynch) was working full-time, serving as lieutenant for his volunteer fire station, taking on responsibilities as a newly-elected church deacon, and living his life in service to others.
Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024 was the start of a long, painful, and difficult journey for Dad. He was diagnosed with an arthritic septic left hip joint. He spent 10 days in-patient between two hospitals and had major surgery to drain infection and place a temporary hip spacer. The doctor also placed a PICC line before Dad's discharge, and for 12 weeks post-op, he was on IV and oral antibiotic medications.
Just as Dad was turning the corner in terms of lab work and pain management, on Sunday, Jan. 26, he fell while leaving church and broke his femur - another 4 nights in the hospital and emergency surgery to repair the fracture and replace his temporary hip.
While Medicare and commercial insurance have covered a portion of Dad's in-patient hospital stays, the out-patient doctors', three ambulance rides, and pharmacy bills are starting to roll in with hefty fees attached. Not to mention, he has a permanent full hip replacement surgery, hospital stay, and therapy still to come in the months ahead.
Dad is always the first to volunteer his time, money, blood, sweat, and tears when someone else, even a complete stranger, is in need. Now, he needs his community to rally around him during this journey in recovery.
Our family, friends, and fire & church families have been the greatest support system, especially considering I no longer live in Sumter and have been traveling every few days to be in the office at work when I'm not working remotely otherwise. I hate that I cannot do more for Dad financially, and I have often questioned my move to the upstate here recently. Of course Dad has told me through it all that I should remain faithful as he is and trust in God to reveal His ultimate plan for these setbacks.
I'll wrap this up by saying that if you can give in any way (financially, through prayer, with encouraging words, phone calls, etc.), I promise you it won't be money or time wasted. I appreciate each and every person who takes the time to read this as I pour out my heart through words at 3 a.m.
Dad's life verse Isaiah 41:10 says, "Fear not, for I am with you. I will strengthen you, help you, and hold you with My righteous right hand."
My life verse Proverbs 19:21 says, "You can make many plans, but the Lord's purpose will prevail."
