Research on Mangroves & Local Community Livelihoods
Donativo protegido
My name is Robin Bartmann and I am the COO of Vlinder - the company focused on community-based mangrove restoration based in Austria, operating in Africa and Asia.
This year, I’m taking on my personal biggest challenge: an Ironman triathlon. But I do not want to do it just for the finish line — together with you, I would to advance a cause that is dear to my heart.
I’m calling it Mangroveman, and I invite you to support my mission: raising funds for mangrove research and local community livelihoods in coastal regions of Africa and South East Asia.
Why mangroves? They are nature's superhero-magical tree, storing up to five times more carbon than tropical forests, softening the effects of climate change, protecting vulnerable coastlines from storms, and supporting vital fisheries and biodiversity. Yet, they’re disappearing at alarming rates.
At my company Vlinder, we restore mangrove ecosystems with and for local communities. This donation goes beyond that - and will fund topics that are benefitting every mangrove actor on the planet and helping scale and sustain mangrove restoration.
- Scientific research to improve restoration outcomes (planting mangroves in abandonend fishponds)
- Livelihood programs that benefit women, youth, and fishers (revenue distribution systems with the highest socioeconomic impact)
- Local leadership & ownership of restoration outcomes (enable current improvement ideas of locals: village microfinance fund, community hall building etc.)
Let’s make every kilometer of this Ironman count — for more and more conscious people in vibrant, healthy and integrated ecosystems.
With gratitude,
Robin Bartmann
