Hi all, I’d like to raise awareness and raise money to support Group B Strep Support (GBSS) as its effected my family massively. In order to raise money i will be walking Pen-Y-Fan on the 5th of July! Any little helps! Whether its £1 or £10 we appreciate everything! I have paper sponsorship forms as well as this go fund me. At just 10 days old i noticed my daughter, Skarlett had a floppy lifeless arm while in the bath one night and was in pain with the arm if i tried to lift it upwards, i took her to A&E which the doctors had absolutely no idea what was wrong with her arm. After doing blood tests and a x-ray that still nothing showed they were baffled on what was wrong. Due to not finding anything on the x-ray or blood tests they put it down to an injury and blamed me and her dad for causing it. 2 weeks later she had another Skeletal done which showed a hole in her bone, bloods were repeated and her infection markers had risen, thats when they decided to do an MRI which confirmed a severe infection. The following day she was taken into theatre to flush out the infection and wash the bone as all the fluid build up was compressing her limb, while doing this they swabbed the puss and sent it to the lab which came back positive for Group B Strep. After 7 days spent in hospital we was then sent home under the condition that we woukd go back and forth the hospital every single day so that she could have IV antibiotics….. the doctors said her case was very rare as she never had any symptoms of an infection, no temperature, no fever and wasn't unwell in herself. But i believe with more funding, more research will be done the doctors will be better educated and will be able to diagnose GBSS by the rare symptoms and not just the common ones. My baby got left undiagnosed and untreated for 2 weeks after i took her to the hospital due to the doctors not doing the correct testing. My family have been put through absolute hell and i’d hate to see another baby, another parent, another family go through what we have been through.
