Rescuing Ryder
Donation protected
Ryder is a 1.5 year old male lover of a dog who has had a little stretch of bad luck. Ryder was being rehomed via Facebook this past winter, and slipped his collar while arriving to his potential new home in an area he had never been. He was lost, scared, in fight or flight mode for 4 days and night on his own in the woods. I did not have any connection to him at this point, but saw he was missing on Facebook and contacted the new owner to see if I could help. I purchased a live trap, set it and tracked him day and night, had a whole slew of strangers on Facebook helping, until we finally were able to trap him. He was too scared to come to us, but once he was trapped he knew he was safe and immediately fell in love with his rescuers - myself and a few other volunteers. Unfortunately Ryder was not a good fit for the family who had taken him in the night he got lost, and this started our effort to get him to the family who would give him the best life ever that he deserves. We did try to get him into our local shelter, however he would have had to be kenneled for a few days before going out to a foster who we had lined up, and that is where the problem came about: Ryder had severe separation anxiety, we believe he was possibly passed around a few times in his short life, and putting him in a shelter kennel would have been traumatizing, as it can be to many dogs and cats. But in his case, we felt he may shut down past the point of repair. So we choose to start our own private rescue effort for this amazing pup. His separation anxiety has been getting better and better, he is making great progress!! We have had selfless volunteers, donors, and fosters to make this happen. However, who knew the COST of rescuing just one dog!? It's a lot! Ryder had to be fully vetted, neutered, and also requires a semi costly medication for at least a few months. We have purchased supplies, food, a kennel, and more - all as cost effectively as possible. We were unable to get him into a low cost clinic any time soon for his vetting, so being time is of the essence we are having him vetted at my personal animals' veterinary clinic, which is a bit more than a low cost clinic. We have and will provide donors a full accounting of every single cost, all necessary. I personally have put the maximum of my own money into this project already. His foster mom is planning to adopt him, but was in need of a foster-to-adopt process to make it work for her until she graduates from college this coming month. She cannot move to her new home after graduation until he is neutered, which is the last big ticket item on the list! We are asking for only small donations as we have already raised some, but it has been used up. It is only one life, we know, but we felt so strongly about how special this boy is that we know all this hard work and fund raising is worth it. Mr. Ryder will do something very special someday, he is a very intuitive animal and loves his people so much. He has shown no aggression, is a very loving and gentle - he is just a good boy! Please help us get him to the end of his rescue phase of life and into his forever happy life! Any excess donations raised will be donated to our local rescues should we exceed our goal.
