Our small nonprofit, Golden State Great Pyrenees Rescue & Sanctuary, is struggling to keep up with rising veterinary bills after rescuing several dogs from high-intake Southern California shelters and strays. Each of them came from heartbreaking situations — most were out of time, labeled “unadoptable,” or sick and no one else stepped forward.

Now, they finally have a second chance — but they need your help to finish their recovery. Bonnie was rescued from the euthanasia list in a shelter with strep zoo, distemper, and kennel cough with her bonded mate Clyde. She’s recovering from severe pneumonia and still needs weeks of vet visits, X-rays, and medications before she can safely be spayed. Clyde – Bonnie’s loyal companion is being treated for kennel cough and will also need follow-up vet care, neutering and grooming.
Our other medical case is Everest, who came to us as a stray with a broken tibia. His recovery is expected to take 6-12 weeks.

So far, we’ve spent $5,492 on their care. We still need to raise $4,600 to cover the remaining medical costs — including ongoing treatments, medications, spay/neuter surgeries, and follow-up visits.

We specialize in saving Great Pyrenees and other large breeds that are often overlooked — the ones labeled “aggressive,” “fearful,” or “too much work.” With patient care, love, and proper medical attention, they transform into gentle, adoptable companions.

Your donation directly funds their recovery, comfort, and chance at a real home. Even the smallest gift makes a difference — and sharing this campaign helps just as much. Every donation is tax deductible.

Thank you for standing with us and believing that every life is worth saving.

Everest first vet bill

Bonnie - waiting at the emergency hospital

Clyde - patiently waiting to be examined outside due to symptoms

Bonnie - at the shelter, scared, pleading for someone to take her home

This was a noticed posted from the shelter

Bonnie - this is the emergency vet bill. She has a vet checking her every few days at home and at the vet office for xrays and refills weekly averaging $1100 a week.

UPDATES

11/26/25 - Tonight we rushed Bonnie to the hospital. The vet confirmed what we had been worried about all along — she had distemper. The only option given was humane euthanasia. We couldn’t let her continue to suffer. We tried everything we could and then some. Please, please vaccinate your dogs. They depend on us to protect them.

Update 12/23/25 - Everest continues to heal. He still goes to the vet twice a week bills average between $133 to $600 per visit.
We have to spay/neuter several dogs this week Ruby and Rosa got spayed and we paid $718 for just 2 girls.
