(Dee Dee's story)

I'm Christine Dickson, a certified hypnotherapist and student in Equine Assisted Coaching and Learning.  Dee Dee is an Appaloosa mare with a heart of gold who just wants to spread love. You can watch our story in the video above.

When I met Dee Dee the connection was instant.  I felt her beautiful heart, her loneliness, and her longing to be able to give and receive love.

She was malnourished, neglected, and barely ever left her small stall. Her owners were horse hoarders and had way too many horses just like Dee Dee. They refused to allow anyone to adopt these horses and, even worse, wouldn't allow the horses to be pet or given any attention.

I made Dee Dee a promise that I would help her get back the life she was born to live.

I’m asking for your help to do that.

(Dee Dee's old stall was full of holes filled with urine)

On Nov 19th, I got a text that would change both of our lives forever.

The ranch where Dee Dee was living had been foreclosed on and animal control was coming in 72 hours to take whatever horses were left,  they would most likely be put down. I got there just in time to get them to turn Dee Dee over to me!

With a little research and help from some great people, like Darrell Harris at Dark Horse Ranch, we were able to free Dee Dee and take her to her new home!

It has been a dream of mine for over 10 years to get certified in Equine Assisted Coaching and Learning. In the spring I started volunteering at Saffyre Sanctuary, a horse recue that also certifies in this modality. If you are unfamiliar with using horses in this way check out this quick link:

Once she's healthy Dee Dee will start her new life as a therapy horse. The first organization I’ve chosen to work with is www.sparesomechange.org Visit their website and you'll understand the impact Dee Dee could have in healing the lives of former homeless youth.

Your generous donations are needed now because the next few months will be the most expensive as it covers all of her initial veterinary visits (she hasn’t seen a vet in years) and supplies.

Initial costs are:

$325 a month for board

$600 to purchase food and supplements in bulk

$500 for equipment

$225 initial vet visit (could be more)

$200 to fix her teeth

$50 every 6 weeks for the farrier to address her cracked hoof

After the initial costs her continued care will run about $600 a month.

I've seen what people can do when they come together and we are determined to see Dee Dee thrive in her new life.

If you live in the Los Angeles area, please feel free to contact me. We'd love for you to come meet Dee Dee and see for yourself the look of wide eyed disbelief on her face at all the love, food, treats, and attention she is now getting!

We promise to post updates as we go.

Thank you for contributing…and please...SHARE, SHARE, SHARE. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Note: If we exceed our goal we will split all the money beyond that point 50/50 with www.saffyresanctuary.org. We would love to give back to the amazing people who do so much selfless work and who have taken us under their wing. If it weren't for their generosity in spirit and guidance we wouldn't be here.
