Rescued Horse Needs Essential Eye Surgery

My name is Maria and I rehabilitate Standardbreds for the Standardbred Retirement Foundation which is a 501c3 non-profit horse rescue.

We have a mare in sanctuary who has been with the rescue since August of 2020. My Face aka Mya Louise was taken into the rescue with severe untreated uveitis along with a host of other issues. We've managed her uveitis quite well for 4.5 years. Unfortunately, due to complications with the current flare-up, Mya's veterinarian is recommending enucleation surgery to remove Mya's right eye. We need to raise the funds to help pay for this surgery as well as cover the cost of bandages, medications, post-surgical exam(s), and to be prepared for any unexpected expenses. We need roughly $1400 for the surgery, medications/supplies, and a follow-up visit, plus I would like to raise at least an additional $400 to cover any unexpected expenses that may be related to this surgery.

All donations are tax deductible and any funds not used for this surgery will go into the rescue's general fund to help provide for other Standardbreds currently under the rescue's care.

As always, we greatly appreciate our donors and know that you choose which rescue's to donate to based on the greatest need. In this case, we have done our best for 4.5 years to keep Mya's eye stable which has allowed funding to go towards helping other horses, but now we are asking for help to provide this medically necessary surgery for Mya.

Mya is a gentle mare, she loves children and other animals, and she truly is a sweetheart to work with. Mya deserves the best possible care and outcome. With your help, we hope to provide her with that care and allow her to live her best life out in her pasture with her buddy.
