Rescued From Abuse – Help Dobby In His Double Knee Surgery
Donation protected
My sweet dog Dobby is a 2-year-old pit bull-boxer mix with a heart full of love and energy. He’s incredibly playful, loves meeting new people and animals, and is basically a big baby. But behind his joyful spirit is a difficult past.
Dobby was originally rescued from an illegal dog fighting ring about a year and a half ago by a “couple.” Sadly, instead of finding safety, he suffered even more. The boyfriend abused him—beating, starving, and neglecting him. Dobby was left outside in storms, confined to a crate far too small for his size. Eventually, the “couple” gave up on him, claiming they “couldn’t handle him,” and were attempting to return him to a kill shelter.
That’s when I stepped in. I couldn’t let him go back to that life, so I adopted him in March 2024. Since then, Dobby has become a huge part of my family. He’s shown us nothing but love, loyalty, and gratitude. It’s clear he knows he was saved from something dark.
But now, Dobby needs help again.
About two months ago, we were playing at the local soccer field after a rainy night. While running around, full of joy, he slipped and fell sideways. He cried out and began limping. When we got home, I noticed he still wasn’t putting weight on his leg and was clearly in pain. I took him to the pet hospital for X-rays, and the diagnosis was heartbreaking: he had partially torn his ACL (technically, the CCL in dogs) in his right hind leg, and also had a condition called patellar luxation—where his kneecap dislocates as he walks.
The recommended treatment is surgery—specifically, two procedures:
Medial Patellar Luxation (MPL) repair, and
Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO).
At a recent follow-up with a veterinary surgeon, we discovered his left knee is also partially torn and showing similar issues. Each surgery (one per leg) will cost approximately $5,000, not including post-op care and physical therapy.
I’m 21 years old and currently working as a firefighter in North Carolina. Getting a dog at this stage in life wasn’t planned, but adopting Dobby has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. He’s changed my life—and I want to do everything I can to give him the chance to walk, run, and play pain-free again.
A friend recommended I create this GoFundMe, and while it’s hard to ask for help, I know Dobby deserves a second chance. If you can donate, pray, share, or even just send some love our way, we’d be beyond grateful.
Thank you so much.
