Rescued Baby Birds
Donation protected
A group of us are working tirelessly 24/7 to save rejected/abandoned/injured baby birds. We do this as volunteers but it takes up a huge amount of our time and resources, although alongside our family life and jobs
We are fundraising to help with all the costs involved, travel, vets, food, cleaning and so much more
Here is info about just some of the birds we have helped:
Bsby Buddy (cover photo) a local vets were going to put him to sleep, so instead we took him in, into my family home, no experience, learning as we went. kept indoors in a puppy pen with lots of blankets, high quality fish food and constantly keeping clean.
Buddy was not even a day old, he was so tiny and still covered in egg juice and had his milk teeth, he was small but big on character! Such a lovely boy, but he had problems with his feet. He was slipping and sliding all over the place, one leg stretching forward, the other stretching back, then he would tumble and fall on his face.
It was awful to see but he was otherwise healthy, cuddling up to others we took in, very chatty and ate really well. When it was time for the others to move to the outside aviary that we just had built, Buddy couldn’t go as his legs had not improved enough
He then moved on to Shimmer of Hope in Exmouth who we work closely with, a vet check revealed he most likely has a genetic bone disease, he has pain relief, lots of love and care and only time will tell how his journey will progress but he will continue to need extra help and incur vet costs
Hope is a beautiful girl that fell off a high roof, and was left outside alone in the heat all day, we took her in overnight, giving water with honey and food, but she was so weak and could barely move, we took her to a kind vets, one of the very limited few who don’t just put to sleep, they are giving IV fluids, pain relief and hand discovered a heart problem, time willl tell if Hope will survive
Hundreds of these babies are falling off the roof, being found on the ground, in danger, dehydrated, heat exhaustion or injured. These are collected on a daily basis from all over the South East and taken to Shimmer of Hope
The very best outcome is when we are called out to a baby that’s fallen off the roof, not injured or unwell, and we can clearly see where the nest and parents are, in this situation they are put back on the roof and reunited with their family, this is wonderfully to see. the parents overjoyed to have their babies back, we are doing this many times a day, everyday!
These rescues are happening all day everyday and volunteers are suffering from burn out, we hope to raise enough funds that we can start to pay people to help with the driving as it’s too much for us to cope
The funds will also go towards feeding these very hungry babies to get them big and strong, until they can fly and be released on the beach
Many injured birds would have been put to sleep, but with rehabilitation they have gone on to recover and heal, please help us to continue out great work to save the birds
