Help us obtain the Wartime medals of Guyanese Canadian Soldier Sydney Flood who served in two World Wars including No.2 Construction Battalion.
Hi my name is Kathy Grant and I am an historian specializing in field of Black Canadian Military History.
My father was a WWII veteran and before he passed away, he made me promise to continue his legacy of documenting, digitizing and preserving the memory of members of the Black community who donned the Canadian uniform.
I recently discovered that Wartime medals belonging to a Guyanese soldier who served in Canada’s segregated No2 Construction Battalion in the WWI and the Veterans Guard in WWII, were up for auction. The price was $6,000 plus tax.
We contacted the seller and they agreed to reduce the price to $4,000 plus tax and give us time to raise the necessary funds to aquire the medals. Once we obtain the medals, we shall create educational programming and donate them to a cultural cente.
In order to be successful, we would need 100 people to donated $50 or 200 people to donate $25. Can we count on you to make a donation today?
