Hi everyone, my name is Lannee, and I’m reaching out on behalf of a sweet soul named Roddy, a 14-month-old Rottweiler who was abandoned and left to fend for himself.
Roddy’s previous owners fled their home due to fear of ICE raids and left him chained to a backyard post for three days, with no access to appropriate food and water, and no ability to lay down comfortably. He was completely alone—tied up, scared, and forgotten. A good Samaritan shared his heartbreaking story on the Nextdoor app, which is how I learned about him.
She had tried to contact the previous owners, only to be told:
“Roddy is no longer our problem.”
As a dog mom of two, my heart shattered. I knew I couldn’t turn away.
With the help of another kind neighbor, Beth (a fellow dog mom and animal advocate), we set out to rescue Roddy. He had chewed through his leash and was found huddled in the garage of the abandoned home. Beth and her husband welcomed him into their home with food, treats, and a much-needed bath before I brought Roddy home with the intention of fostering him until he could be adopted.
Unfortunately, my two senior dogs were not comfortable with Roddy’s presence—likely due to his large size. Roddy never reacted aggressively, but I knew I couldn’t keep him in my home long-term.
Since then, I’ve reached out to multiple rescues and shelters—most are either full or underfunded. I even made a 70-minute round trip to a rescue I thought could help, only to be turned away at the door.
I do not want to call animal control if I can help it. Large breeds like Rottweilers are often overlooked and sadly face higher rates of euthanasia. I refuse to let that happen to Roddy.
Roddy is gentle, loving, and wants nothing more than a safe place to rest and be loved. He deserves that chance.
Your donations will go directly toward:
• Veterinary care (scabs, neutering, vaccines)
• Food, treats, and enrichment (toys, bully sticks, etc.)
• A no-pull harness, leash, and collar
• Hygiene and grooming supplies
Roddy is one of countless abandoned pets, and I would love the chance to change his story. Even you can’t give, please share his story—you never know who might be able to.
Thank you for reading, caring, and helping me give Roddy the new beginning he deserves.
With gratitude,
Lannee
