Help Save My Home – Urgent Repairs Needed for My Narrowboat

Hi, my name is Monica. I live on a houseboat in East London. In 2022, I bought this canal boat with the hope of building a home and escaping the soaring rent prices in the city. I knew it was project and needed some work done. I was told everything was fine with the boats hull, but that wasn’t entirely true.

Over the last 2,5 years, I’ve worked so hard to turn it into a real home. I’ve done most of the work myself, bit by bit, often living on a couch as I slowly made it more livable. It’s almost there now, nearly a proper home. Feel free to see my progress on instagram @narrowboatrestoration

But recently, I found out that the hull needs urgent replating. Without this, my boat, my home, could sink. Everything I’ve worked so hard for over these couple years could be lost in the water. As a hairdresser and student working six days a week, my income only covers my basic expenses, credit card bills and course fees, rest of what’s left i still spend on fixing up my houseboat and when I have nothing left to save for these major repairs, and I’m terrified that I’m going to lose everything.

I never imagined I’d be in this situation, but I’m reaching out for help because I don’t know what else to do. I’ve started this GoFundMe in the hope that, with your support, I can save my home. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help get me closer to fixing my boat and securing my future by providing me a home.
