Rescue Mare and Foal Colic Surgery

 

hi everyone! I am Starting this fundraiser for my friend and trainer Meagan. This morning one of her rescue mares presented with colic and has a displaced colon requiring immediate surgery in order to save her life.

 

Kiwi is a 13 year old Dutch warmblood mare who is a rescue that Meagan and Jess have spent a year carefully rehabbing. She is 5 months pregnant and is the sweetest kindest mare I have ever met.

 

She was rushed to Guelph university this morning and has been undergoing treatment, however has shown no signs of improvement with current treatments. Her Pain returns hourly despite tremendous efforts leaving them with the choice of either Euthanasia or Surgery.

 

 

The surgery offers about 70% chance of saving both mare and foal, and barring complications she should make a complete recovery with no additional risk to the pregnancy or for future colics.

 

 

After two recent losses it is just heartbreaking to have another tragedy strike a beloved Tiara horse. the cost of the surgery is immense both financially and emotionally.

I know Meagan is desperately looking to fund the surgery but I would hate for her to have make the impossible decision to have this lovely mare put to sleep because she just can't find the money in time. If any of my amazing friends can spare even a small amount I know it would help enormously both emotionally and financially and would ensure that Kiwi and her baby can get the best chance at life.

 

 

The surgery is quoted at 10-12k and this go fund me is trying to fund half of the cost for two reasons. One, I know Meagan is already trying desperately to put the funds together to get Kiwi the surgery she needs and second, I know how well the horse community comes together during an emergency and there are no people more determined to help a horse, let alone a rescue horse get the medical attention that it so desperately needs. I want to be respectful of Meagan and Jess during this extremely difficult time, but just know that this community can come together and help them out!
