Forever Wild Avian Sanctuary has been a staple in the Tucson community for more 30 years. On August 6, 2025, based on a false report, more than 100 birds were abruptly seized from their home at the sanctuary by Pima County Animal Control, before there was any formal hearing or real investigation into this false report. The sanctuary owner and founder, Darlene Brastaad, has singlehandedly kept the sanctuary alive around the clock for years, often from her own pocket, along with the help of several caring volunteers. We are heartbroken that our beloved birds have been stripped from all they've known. Any bird-lover will tell you that breaking a bird's safe place and bond with its caregivers is extremely traumatizing - we can only imagine how scared and confused they must be! Not to mention, this removal was done on the hottest day of the year, making it that much more stressful for them!
Our birds are the sweetest animals around, and we want to bring them home. Please help us raise money to help Darlene fight to get the birds back to our sanctuary where they belong. All donations will go to the sanctuary and to Darlene for lawyer's fees to help fight these false claims. We are also looking for anyone with connections to the media who can help bring attention to this horrible act. Please also share the link so this fundraiser can get more reach. ANY help is appreciated!
Darlene has devoted her life to birds and animals, and yesterday her world was completely ripped apart. PACC even unjustly took her own birds, her 2 dogs and her beautiful emu Albert, which were not part of the sanctuary. We can only hope that these monies will offer some solace during this agonizing time.
