Hello Family & Friends,

Shayleigh, my grandparents’ rescue cat, arrived at their house last Halloween as a stray. He was just a tiny kitten at the time and so vulnerable and alone. True animal lovers, my grandparents took him in, cared for him and eventually adopted him. Shayleigh has always been a sweet, playful, and energetic kitty. He has brought so much joy into all of our lives. After an unfortunate recent turn of events, he needs your help.

Shayleigh’s neutering surgery was scheduled for last week. Upon further evaluation, doctors realized that the surgery was going to be more involved and expensive, as they needed to remove undescended testicles due to a rare condition called Cryptorchidism. The surgery was a complicated procedure resulting in a large incision descending from just under his ribs down to his hind legs.

Days after the surgery, Shayleigh started to look gravely ill, so my grandfather took him back to the vet where they discovered he had a 107-degree fever. They put him on ice to lower his temperature, gave him multiple antibiotics through an IV, cleaned out his wounds, then stapled his incision back together. Upon completion of more bloodwork by the vet, Shayleigh was sent home with antibiotics to be taken twice daily. My grandparents stayed up all night with Shayleigh, fearing he may not make it.

Early Father’s Day morning, Shayleigh started leaking a large amount of fluid from his incision. Fortunately, my grandfather found an emergency vet that was open and took him in at once. The vet discovered that Shayleigh had an infection under the skin of his incision and was running a 105-degree temperature, so he received yet another round of IV fluids and IV antibiotics. He was sent home once more, but with added medication to help alleviate his pain.

Shayleigh went back to his regular vet the next day for a follow up appointment. While he has made great progress so far, he still has a long road of recovery ahead of him. I am reaching out to fellow animal lovers for help in covering his ongoing treatments and medical bills. My grandparents are retired and on a fixed income, so these unforeseen medical bills have put quite a strain on them financially. They have the kindest hearts and have a genuine love for animals.
