Rescue The Lonely Sheep in Scotland
Donation protected
I am fundraising to pay for the rescue of 'Britain's loneliest sheep'. I read about this animal stranded in Scotland along Moray Firth's east Highland coast and wanted to help. I was heartbroken to think that the poor sheep has been stranded and alone for two years.
I made some enquiries with local marine business in the area and spoke to Jill Turner who first raised the plight of the sheep. Two wonderful business called Cromarty Firth Marine Services and British Hovercraft Company got in touch with me to say that they can provide a professional team with a boat to help rescue the animal. I have also spoken to the SSPCA and I have agreed to raise the funds needed to carry out the rescue operation, which they have publicly responded to say that they will help with.
The ewe described as 'Britain's loneliest sheep', was first seen by Jill Turner from Brora while kayaking along the Moray Firth's east Highland coast two years ago. She has encountered this same sheep again with an overgrown fleece during her recent trip this year, which means the animal has been on its own for over two years.
As Ms Turner and her fellow kayakers went by, the ewe bleated out to them. This is heartbreaking to think of this poor animal alone. Sheep need the companionship of their flock. It is clear that this ewe is in need of assistance. It has an overgrown fleece, which can cause serious health problems including infection, heat stress and difficulty accessing food.
I plan to use these funds to pay for the rescue team and any spare funds will be distributed to the SSPCA and animal welfare charities in the area. Once the sheep has been rescued, it can go and live the rest of its life in a flock where it will be much happier and safer.
