Rescue a valiant immigrant grasping for hope

Over the last 6 years, I have been privileged to know a good Christian husband and father (with an incredible work ethic) who spent thousands of dollars striving to correct his legal status. This man and his wife have lived in the United States for decades, rearing children who are citizens and graduates of universities. This is his home. He doesn't know anyone in the land of his birth. He had an attorney file an asylum application. This attorney was later disbarred. Nine years after the asylum application was filed USCIS has finally scheduled his interview. Unfortunately, the former attorney took his money; filed an incorrect application with little supporting evidence, and won't be with him at his interview. USCIS requires my friend to bring his own legal interpreter.
As long as I have been acquainted with this kind and quiet individual, he has been seeking to re-establish his working visa through a series of inadequate representations. He no longer has any resources. He has lost all income striving to be legal in what he chooses to believe is a free and just society.
I wish I could be more specific but I do not want to put him or his family in jeopardy with ICE.
I know that Immigration has become a controversial issue in the United States. However, my friend is the neighbor you would want to live next door. He is helpful, humble, hardworking, faithful and loving to his family, obeys the law, pays his taxes, attends church, is a strength to his family and friends. It breaks my heart that he has received such poor treatment from those who should be pillars of our community. Please, if you are able, will you contribute to the new legal fees, which are needed immediately to find a new and honorable attorney and a legal translator.
