Re-Roof Temple Connor Clonmacnoise
Temple Connor is a small medieval church located within the monastic complex of Clonmacnoise. It was the burial place of the O’Connors of Connaught and one of the last structures of Gaelic royally sponsored building works. The medieval structure was re-roofed in the mid-18th century and contains a number of 18th century memorial slabs to the Malone family of Ballinahown. The roof was repaired in 1868. It is the only remaining roofed church on the site.
Significant roof damage is currently allowing penetration of moisture which places the timber barrel vault of 1914 at risk of decay and damage.
This small but very special church of Temple Connor is part of Athlone Union of Parishes (registered charity no 20013462), the church is in regular use during the year & especially during the summer months. The architects survey carried out estimates the cost of these works at €100,000.
We, the volunteer trustees, feel that we must make every effort to safeguard this building for future generations. Please consider becoming a friend of Temple Connor and donating towards this cause.
