The US and Colombian law enforcement community has suffered a tremendous loss. Officer Edward Jimmy Rivera Gonzalez of the Colombian National Police (CNP), Bogotá, Colombia, was killed in the line of duty.
On February 2, 2022, at 0830, Jimmy and 3 additional members of a special investigative team of Colombian National Police traveled to Acandí, Chocó, Colombia, preparing to execute an arrest warrant for an investigation directly tied to the United States.
While having breakfast at a local restaurant, members of the criminal organization under investigation identified Jimmy and his team as plain clothes police officers. This criminal organization had declared war on Colombian police and military due to recent high profile arrests of members of the organization, a tactic commonly referred to as “Plan Pistola.”
Sadly, Jimmy and his team was ambushed while enjoying a meal together at the restaurant. Jimmy was killed and another team member was wounded and airlifted to a local hospital where, thankfully, he is expected to recover.
Jimmy was one of the best. He was a 17 year veteran of the CNP and a member of the FBI’s Task Force in Bogota since 2010. Jimmy was intelligent, had an amazing work ethic, and always showed up with a smile on his face. He had an incredible ability to make you laugh, no matter how bad your day was. More importantly, Jimmy was a friend to every US LEO that worked Colombia. We will miss him dearly.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Luz Mila Cifuentes Santafé, and their 16 year old daughter.
Jimmy’s brothers and sisters in blue have established this Go Fund Me site to raise money for his family and his daughter’s college education.
