Representing the Highlands! Kickstart Sean’s Pro Golf Career

As one of Scotland’s top amateur golfers finishing 5th on the 2024 Scottish Golf Men’s Order of Merit, I plan to make my debut on the Tartan Pro Tour in 2025 which is Scotland’s leading professional tour.

The reality and challenge of turning professional is managing the very significant additional costs involved. I am working hard and saving, I’m talking to potential sponsors and I’ve set up this Crowdfunder in the hope of a little help from my family and friends!

What’s My Story?

My name is Sean Kennedy, I am 25 years old, and I have been passionate about competing in sport for as long as I can remember. Having been brought up in Singapore from a young age where I attended international school, sport was a massive part of the culture. Like most of the sports I played, golf was introduced to me by my father where we would occasionally play the local 9 hole par 3 course or have a day out at the driving range, where at the time, my only concern was how far I could hit the ball.

However my love for the game really began when we moved to Scotland in 2014, (I was 14) to a small town in the Highlands called Tain. After finding out about the local golf course just down the road from my school, my father invested £40 for my annual junior membership at Tain Golf Club, where I’m still a proud member today. During this period I became Tain Men’s Club Champion in 2020 and 2021.

My Breakthrough Year in 2024

My breakthrough year came in 2024 when I finished the season ranked 5th on the Scottish Men’s Order Of Merit. With notable results including reaching the semi-finals of the Scottish Men’s Amateur Championship (of 264 starters) and winning the North of Scotland Amateur Championship, I’ve decided that now is the right time for me to enter the pro ranks.

Asking is Hard!

Throughout the 2024 season, I worked full time as a caddie at Royal Dornoch Golf Club. This was rewarding work but left me limited time to develop my own golf practice. Despite this, I worked hard to achieve great results in 2024 and know this can be improved further with dedicated time for training.

To prepare myself for the 2025 season, I am currently self-funding 3 months in Florida where the weather is warm and allows me to train in good conditions. I am also talking to potential sponsors to secure some corporate funding which is essential to help cover the significant costs of travel, accommodation, entry fees, coaching and equipment.

With a little more funding from my amazing friends, family and anyone who would like to support an up and coming golfer from the Highlands, I believe that I can progress and succeed as a professional.

My crowdfunding target is £5000 which will contribute positively towards my season. I understand that this isn’t the normal charitable cause but if you feel you are able to support me with any amount, however small you think it may be, it all adds up and will make a huge difference. Your support will help me to achieve my dream of representing Scotland at the highest level of the game!

To give back to the community, I plan to volunteer with some junior coaching at Tain Golf Club.
