Briony Webb, Team GB - Dragonboat World Championships 2025

Hi, my name is Briony, and on Saturday 12 July, I will be flying to Germany represent Great Britain at this year's IDBF Dragonboat World Championships in Brandenburg!!

It feels slightly bonkers writing that... me?! Team GB?! How did that happen?!

I mean, I've always loved sport but I never dreamt I would one day be representing my country!

I only discovered the sport two years ago, but as soon as I got in a dragonboat for the first time, I just loved it, and I've been a regular at my local club, Secklow Hundred in Milton Keynes ever since. I love being out on the water and love being part of a team. I've met some wonderful people and it's a great feeling being in a boat training and racing together. So if you're looking for a new sport/hobby, I'd definitely recommend it!

Since deciding to trial for the Senior A GB squad back in 2024, I have been training hard both in the gym and on the water. The training has been incredibly full-on, and it's not been easy to balance it with a full-time job and other life commitments; I must admit, it has tested me physically, mentally and emotionally (yes, there have been tears). But I am incredibly proud of what I've achieved and am really excited to travel with the rest of the GB squad and compete with the best in the world!

I've decided to set up this Go Fund Me page because some friends have been asking if there is any way to support me. Unfortunately, Dragonboating is an unfunded sport, which means it's the responsibility of individual athletes to fund their training and competition costs. The financial commitment has certainly been an extra challenge. So any donations to help cover the costs of training, travel, accommodation and kit really would be greatly appreciated.
