Buckingham Playground Fraud Recovery Appeal

Buckingham Events is the charity which raises funds for Buckingham Park Primary School in Shoreham By Sea, West Sussex, which educates nearly 600 children aged 4 to 11. 

We have worked tirelessly alongside the children, families and the local community over the last three years to raise funds for a £75,000 renovation of the lower school’s playground which had become badly worn and posed a safety risk in adverse weather.

Unfortunately, in October 2018, Buckingham Events became a victim of online fraudsters whereby an email containing a legitimate invoice was intercepted, resulting in £19,000 intended to pay for part of the playground renovation being transferred to a fraudulent account. Whilst the incident is still currently under police investigation, we have been advised that these funds cannot be recovered as they have now left UK territory.

This callous attack has caused a devastating setback to the project and we now have a mammoth task ahead to move forward with the plans before the next stream of winter weather kicks in.

We are therefore appealing to our community to help us recoup some of this  stolen money as soon as possible to help ensure our children get the safe playground they deserve and need.
