UPDATE 5/1/19
The Turf is in!
Work on the turf was completed today, right on schedule. Artificial Grass Pros (http://www.goartificialgrasspros.com/) did a great job with the installation. A special thanks to Dene Bustichi for loaning his lift to us and Pasatiempo Inn for putting the construction crew up at a significant discount. Now all that is left is for the kids to play on the turf to work in the extra infill we added. Hopefully we will get new nets installed and some other minor repairs done soon. But all in all, the arena is ready for play!
Thank you very much
To all who contributed money, time, and spreading the word, THANK YOU. Your contribution certainly paid off. I am not singling out any individual or group that contributed because every donation, large and small, was equally important.
Last note:
Hopefully, with the permission of the school district, we plan to sell sponsorships to local businesses to place ads on the sideboards, similar to the ads on the Sharks' Ice Arena. The funds raised by this effort will be specifically for maintenance and future replacement of the turf. We need to do something now in preparation for replacing the turf in ten years. It will go by fast. If you, or a business owner you know would like to show support for the school and our community, please contact me and I will put you in touch with the appropriate person to make it happen. A 12 month ad on the wall is only $500.
Thanks again everyone. We did it!

Dear Friends of Scotts Valley Athletics,
I am heading up a drive to replace the turf at the Scotts Valley High School Arena. I need your help. We need to raise $35,000 within 3 weeks. That’s a tall request, I know. But the upside is that if we do so, we can have the new turf installed by April 30th. This Go Fund Me website has been created to help facilitate fundraising. Four things should be noted.
1) 100% of the money raised will go toward the arena
2) If we fail to raise enough money to complete the work and the project is cancelled, all donations will be returned to you
3) This fundraising effort is not related to efforts being organized by others to fund the Scotts Valley Stadium. Though we support their efforts, this is an independent group organized to accomplish a much smaller, more immediate project.
4) This is a grassroots effort. We are not an official non-profit organization, thus donating to this website directly is not a tax deductible donation. However, for those wishing to claim a tax deduction for their donation, you may write a check to The Falcon Club and note in the memo area “For Arena Turf.” Then either drop the check off at the high school office or mail it to
SVHS Falcon Club

For those who have already pledged to this website and wish to receive a tax deduction, please contact me [email redacted]
Read more if you would like a little background.
In 2008, several volunteers, mostly parents, installed the Scotts Valley Arena. It was a grassroots effort. We dug holes, set posts, built the wall, and installed turf that had been donated. It was a huge endeavor, but the effort was worth it. Students used the turf several hours each day, from the first PE class to the last moments of daylight. On weekends, you would see community members playing soccer, lacrosse, softball, or frisbee. With so much use, the turf finally reached the end of its lifespan and had to be removed. Unfortunately, there was no funding available at the time to replace the turf. For the past couple of years the arena has gone mostly unused and has become a bit of an eyesore. To me, that is unacceptable. Too many people worked too hard to build something extremely useful.
Now it is time to once again pull together. Rarely does an opportunity come to make an immediate difference. A generous contractor has graciously offer to provide and install the turf for 1/3 the price of previously quoted contractors. The turf he is providing was used for 3 days at a special event in San Francisco. It was uncut and clean. These are full rolls. The only catch is that we need to install the turf while the contractor is still in his slow season, which ends in April. I asked him for as much time as possible to raise funds, so we decided to start installation the last weekend of April. The project should take only 4-5 days.
I’m happy to answer any other questions you may have. Please donate to this cause and spread the word.
