Replacing Our Lost Florence Road Trees: Support the Florence Road Community Tree Project.

Sadly, in recent years we’ve lost a significant number of much-loved trees in Florence Road to disease, leaving gaps where there was once shade, greenery, and vital habitat for local wildlife. At the moment, we have 8 stumps, 2 bare trunks and 1 tree without a canopy on the street. A small group of residents has come together to see how we can replace these trees - and we’d love for you to be part of it. We’ve made a start by reaching out to CPRE Sussex Plant Your Postcode and Brighton & Hove Council’s Tree Planting team, and we now have a plan. But we need your ideas, support, and help raising the funds to make it happen.

Why trees matter to Florence Road:

Our trees aren’t just decorative. They clean the air, support local wildlife, improve our health and wellbeing, and make our street a beautiful, inviting place to live. They even increase property values, homes on treelined streets are worth 18% more on average than those without.

What it will cost:

• Planting a new tree costs £346.96.

• Additional expenses like removing old stumps, repairing pavements, installing tree pits, and watering/aftercare bring the total to around £3,000 per tree. Although the Council allocates a small budget for tree replacements, funds are currently stretched - so this is where our community can step in.

Our goal:

We aim to plant 10 new trees and need to raise £30,000 by the end of the year from residents and local businesses. That’s about £130 per household — your contribution will make a lasting difference for our street and the next generation.

Once we’ve raised the money, the Council’s tree experts will work with us to choose suitable species that are safe for our homes, pavements, and services. The planting and care will be handled by the Council’s Tree Planting team. Let’s bring our treelined Florence Road back to life - together.
