Hi, My name is Daniel Greig, and I am a member of American Legion Post 254 in Eden, North Carolina.

We are a non-profit organization with the express purpose of serving the needs of Veterans in the city of Eden, and Rockingham County, North Carolina. The members of Post 254 meet monthly at our Post home located at 147 N Fieldcrest Rd. in Eden.

In the past several months we have noticed a steadily worsening leak in the roof of our building, with the effect of damaging the floors, the ceiling tile, and the roof structure itself. Upon inspecting the actual roof, we found that it is a flat roof with three layers of a tarpaper material with the top layer being at least 15 years old. We have had two different roofing companies look at it for possible repairs, and both have told us that it needs to have the three layers of old material torn off and start fresh.

We have normal utility expenses for the building every month, with our primary income coming from the annual dues of our members. With a declining number of members able to continue paying dues because of the rising cost of living, we are finding ourselves and our bank account in a situation where we do not have the funds to make the necessary repairs. We are very concerned about the damage that is happening not only to the roof, but to the interior of our building as well.

Our members are very active in the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard, providing final Military Honors for our deceased veterans, typically providing honors at over 100 funerals each year on a volunteer basis. We believe in our country and we believe in veterans, and we need a place to meet and make plans for ways that we can continue to serve our country by helping veterans.
