I’m raising funds for my friend of more than 20 years. Rick is in his mid-60s and lives with Parkinson’s. He manages the condition well and remains cognitively and physically capable, but he can no longer drive. That loss has made getting around much harder and has taken a real toll on his independence.
Rick lives simply on a small monthly income, yet he still gives generously of his time and energy. He is a steady support to several people in his life and a dedicated volunteer with the local Salvation Army Corps.
Last winter, Rick used the money he earned ringing bells for the Salvation Army to buy an electric bicycle. It was a practical answer to his mobility challenges and very limited cash flow. It also became something more. The bike gave him a reliable way to get around, and it held a cherished place in his life.
Two weeks ago, that bicycle was stolen. Police efforts to recover it have not been promising, and Rick’s own extensive search has not succeeded either. Losing the bike meant losing an important source of mobility and independence.
Donations will help Rick replace the electric bicycle he worked so hard to buy, along with accessories and related fees. The replacement cost is $3,500. If you are able to give or share this fundraiser, it would mean a great deal. It would help Rick regain the day-to-day freedom the stolen bike provided.
