Replace our Church's windows after vandalism

Purpose: To cover costs incurred as a result of vandalism to our Church facility. On Tuesday, January 10th around 4:20 AM, an unsheltered person went on a vandalism spree, damaging a glass door, and two windows (one being a Sanctuary window). We have already had the windows boarded up and have collected a couple of quotes from different glass companies, and also need to replace the impact-resistant film on the windows. This film on the windows was the only thing that saved the projectiles from flying inside the building, and kept our Church safe from the person entering.

As to be expected, the cost of replacing all this reaches several thousand dollars, and our insurance is a $2,500 deductible. As a small Church, we already have a limited budget and incidents such as this, as you can imagine, only puts a strain on things.

Our church, Metropolitan Community Church of San Diego serves a very diverse community where everyone is welcome - regardless of faith background, race, gender identity, or sexual orientation. We are inclusive, progressive, and Christian... sometimes other people do not like that. So unfortunately, stuff like this is not new here. Over the years, we have had numerous incidents of graffiti, hateful messages, and even a bullet shot through one of our windows. While it is sad and sometimes unsettling, we will not be deterred from our mission to "Help bring people closer to God and one another." We will not be deterred from claiming sanctuary and safety in our church home.

We will, however, continue to pray for the individuals that committed the acts - that they will find peace within themselves, and not project hatred towards what they don't understand or agree with. We will continue to pray that the San Diego Police Department will deliver justice and further their commitments to protecting the LGBT+ community in San Diego.
