Aloha everyone!
We are Reda and Stuart, the owners and artists of Kauai Pottery and Handmade Arts, a mom and pop business. We have been making pottery and island style jewelry on the island of Kauai for 8+ years. We also spotlight the art of other Kauai artists in our shop.
Unfortunately, Hurricane Lowell decimated our small island and a large part of our pottery kiln we use to fire our ceramics in along with it. As we started cleaning up to start working again after the outage we discovered the damage. We also have seen an 80% drop in income from our shop, which is our only source of income, due to visitor arrivals basically grinding to a stop. This pause in visitors is expected to last 2-3 months at least.
We will use these funds for...
-our immediate and urgent needs to keep our ohana safe and housed
-replacing the kiln and for shipping to the island
-replacing kiln furniture (the shelves and posts that go inside the kiln)
-electrical work for the kiln
-clay and glazes
-monthly business expenses to keep the shop open until the island has recovered.
We are grateful for any and all donations. It does feel uncomfortable to be in this position but Life happens and we never expected all the damage the hurricane caused.
If you are unable to donate then please share this as another way of supporting our shop.
Mahalo, Stuart and Reda
