Replace Furniture for Dosker Advocate's Move

Donation protected
Dosker Manor is the largest public housing complex in Louisville, Kentucky. The high rise buildings are more than 50 years old and have suffered from decades of deferred maintenance and neglect.

The city has made the decision to demolish the buildings and relocate the residence, but with a severe housing shortage there’s no place for them to go.

A resident of Building A has located an apartment, applied and got accepted. He is ready to move, but due to conditions at Dosker, he cannot take his furniture. It all needs to be replaced.

Chanelle Helm is seeking help for him to replace his furniture so he can move into his new place. She has found agency that will help him get all he needs, including dishes, and cookware for $500. He is applying for that, and it is hoped they will be able to assist him. That’s what we are trying to raise.

If he isn’t able to use this agency, the money raised will help him buy the furniture on the second-hand market.

Here’s what Chanelle says about this gentleman.

#DoskerManor resident has consistently applied pressure on LMHA about living conditions in Building A- the current building being relocated.

This resident pushed back against LMHA not having adequate housing to relocate residents, ignoring complaints, and finding housing for them in market rate locations.

Well he found one and he got it! It shouldn't have had to take this long but many market rate locations are trying to help despite LMHA push back or lack there of.

However, due to the conditions of his apt at Dosker, he cannot take his furniture. He is wheelchair bound and needs the following:

-Bedroom furniture and mattress
-Couch and chairs; coffee table, desk
-Kitchen table- 4 places

He professionally gets his clothes and linens clean so that is not an issue. He is asking for gift cards. He is making a registry as well.

UPDATE 4/17/2025
Our beneficiary is all moved into his new apartment, which is clean and comfortable for him. He is looking forward to being able to have his son stay over with him at his new home. Thank you for making it possbile for this gentleman and his family to enjoy a life of dignity and safety. On a day when more human remains were discovered at his former housing complex, it is all the more imperative that we help folks relocate out of this place!
