Repatriation and Funeral of Krzysztof

Hello. My name is Maciej Bednarczyk. On Sunday 2nd July 2023 my father, Krzysztof Bednarczyk passed away very suddenly in Cork University Hospital. His wish was to be repatriated and buried in Poland, where he grew up, and I will do everything to fulfil this wish. He was a hard worker all his life and fought to his last breath.

After finding him unconscious on Saturday morning in his bed, my mother and I quickly called the ambulance and Krzysztof was rushed to CUH. On the way to hospital, he suffered a cardiac arrest however the paramedics managed to get his heart beating again. After arriving in CUH the doctors didn't know what had happened to him as the brain was severely damaged. He was still unconscious and I agreed to plug him to a ventilator to give him any chance to surivive at all. He was moved to ICU on saturday evening and we were allowed to visit him again on Sunday morning. However, upon arriving to see him in ICU, the doctor greeted us with the diagnosis that my father's brain had shut off. There was zero hope left for him. He said that he will be disconnected shortly and after over 6 hours of disbeleif and cries, he was disconnected and died very shortly after 4pm.

My father has been on disability benefit for a year after suffering a stroke last year. He was supposed to finally go back to work on the 17th of July. My mother, Weronika and I simply cannot afford this sudden, unexpected death of my father. However, as he was dying, I promised to myself that I will not allow finances to become a barrier to giving him a Removal Service for all of our friends in Cork, a repatriation of his body to our hometown of Gdansk, and allowing our entire family and friends to give him a final farewell and burial in Gdansk, Poland.

So far, I have been absolutely overwhelmed with phonecalls, visits and texts from my friends here in Cork. Everyone is willing to help, I have the will and determination to lay my father to rest as he wished. However, I cannot do this without financial support. In total, I will need about €10,000 to cover everything including repatriation. I would greatly appreciate every donation, no matter how small. I understand not everyone is able to give, but if you could share this page to others, I would be extremely grateful.
