Join us is in supporting the Leave No One Behind Mural Project in El Paso.

This is Laura Meza, an honorably discharged Army veteran, who served during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Unfortunately, like many women in the military, she was sexually assaulted.  Her story differs from other female veterans based on where she was born and where she is now.

Laura Meza was born in Costa Rica and at the age of 5 she was brought to the U.S. by her father along with her mother and 6-month-old sister. She served in the Army from April 2003 to April 2004. While in service she was deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom.  She has an honorable discharge, is a survivor of MST, and suffers from PTSD.  Her coping mechanisms for these traumas were self-medication, which led to her issues with the law and her consequent deportation in 2009.

Laura is not alone.  Repatriate Our Patriots, Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, and Veterans Non-Profit have teamed up with two local artists, Victor Casas and Marco Sanchez, to join the No One Left Behind Mural project (https://lizbethdelacruzsantana.com/lnb-about).  This project will allow us to amplify Laura’s voice in the local El Paso/Ciudad Juarez region and the voices of other deported veterans.

Veterans Non-Profit (https://www.veteransnonprofit.org/) an organization that promotes helping low-income veterans with food, clothing, and mental health services has graciously allowed the use of their space to place the mural.  The dimensions of the wall are 14 ft high by 53 ft wide,  approximately 742 sq ft.  Repatriate Our Patriots donated the funds to create deported veteran Laura Meza's portrait and Las Americas recruited two amazing local artists to create the mural around the portrait.

Your donation will be used exclusively to compensate the two artists commissioned for this project.

Thank you for supporting this initiative! We will keep you posted on the unveiling of the mural and on how you can continue to support deported vets.
