CHURCH REPAIRS FOR ST. MARK'S UMC
Over its 118 years of existence, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church has had a reputation for not only being a religious haven, but also a strong community partner. The year 2020 was a year of many challenges, made worse by the global COVID – 19 pandemic, which restricted our ability to congregate for in-person worship and decreased our income due to the loss of lives and livelihoods in our community.
It was also a year of many accomplishments and blessings. The prayers and support of our congregants have enabled our church to respond in a meaningful way to the dire need for food among members. Presently we have a Food Pantry Program where hot meals and fresh produce are distributed twice weekly to an average of at least 1,000 families weekly from the community . Leading the charge is our Senior Pastor, Rev. Morais Quissico.
Prior to the pandemic, we were able to renovate a portion of the ceiling in our Sanctuary which had collapsed. However, repairs and maintenance are on-going issues for a 118 year-old building and in addition to the collapsed ceilings, a crumbling Steeple, and other day-to-day maintenance at the church building has taken a toll on our church finances.
The church is in dire need of funds to help maintain our building which includes repairs to our basement, plumbing, our steeple, pointing/waterproofing and help to continue our Mission in the Flatbush/Ditmas Park community.
The much needed repairs for our building will be done in phases, and is an on-going project, which we would like to begin as soon as possible.
We understand that everyone's financial situation is difficult, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, but we have faith that God will continue to see us all through. If we do nothing we risk losing a church that has been a beacon of hope to our community for over a century now. We trust that you will give what you can. Every donation goes a long way, regardless of the amount. As a not-for-profit organization, we will provide tax receipts for all donations.
